Contests and Stuff!

Here is a great place (or soon to be great place) where you'll be able to find a whole bunch of awesome contests you can enter in, for 2-D, 3-D, and Photography! Take a look below to see if you want to enter in any. To visit the website, simply click the bolded name of the contest. For more art contests, I found a cool site with a whole bunch of 'em, look at it here.

Non-Recurring Contests:
Contests that probably won't come again after the final deadline.

First Art for the New York Youth Symphony:  Possibly a recurring contest, I'm not sure. There is a $25 entry fee, but there is a possibility that you can be commissioned $1,000 to make a "new visual illustration celebrating the spirit of music." Artwork must be 2-D or photography. I like that 1,000 bucks, and I'm sure you do too. Check it out.

Recurring Contests:
Contests that reoccur at least once a year

The Scholastic Awards: This one seems pretty awesome. Submissions open in September of this year (2013.) You must be in grades 7-12. Canadians can enter too. Anything, literally, an-y-thiing can be put in here, pretty much. Sculpture, painting, writing, videos, comics, there's even a freaking duck tape award, I mean, who the heck has heard of that? There is a LOT on this site, so I'll just give you specific links. Stuff on submissions with the deadlines and basic rules can be found here.  More complex rules and the categories of art can be found here. Prizes and stuff to make you want to enter can be found here. Stuff about the Duck Tape award can be found here.

Celebrating Art: Due dates: November 29th, April 9th, and August 22nd. This contest can take 2-D work and 3-D work. Photography is not allowed- any 3-D work must have a nice background as to not distract the viewer from the main focus- your work! What's the prize? If you win, you get to be published in their tri-annual book, and if you get top ten of your grade level, you get $25! Not bad!

Teen Ink: Due dates: None, this is a monthly magazine, so it doesn't matter. Teen Ink is a teen-based magazine and website. Everything in there is made by, well, you guessed it- teens! To submit, you must sign up on the website, and I don't believe there is any cost. 2-D, 3-D, and Photography. The prize: you get published! (And sometimes even printed on the cover of the magazine, if you're real lucky! Check out this link for more details on the cover art contest: http://www.teenink.com/Contests/CoverPhotoC.php)

Uncommon Goods: Due Dates: None, again. This is a monthly thing too, semifinalists are chosen every month! Basically, send in your art to get a chance at $500 and to get your art sold on UncommonGoods.com, with %5 royalty. 2-D contest, sorry 3-D'ers. (No photography either.) Runners-up will get critiqued and even possibly their portfolio reviewed!

Ok, so far, we have had one contest, which the theme was to show Thankfulness. The winner was Keith Hilby. Congratulations Keith! He gets... A NEW CAR!!!  Actually, no, but he did get a gift card to Michael's, an awesome art store!
